The start of an original new urban fantasy series starring human chameleon Ciel Halligan

Snagging a marriage proposal for her client while on an all-expenses-paid vacation should be a simple job for Ciel Halligan, aura adaptor extraordinaire. A kind of human chameleon, she’s able to take on her clients’ appearances and slip seamlessly into their lives, solving any sticky problems they don’t want to deal with themselves. No fuss, no muss. Big paycheck.

This particular assignment is pretty enjoyable... that is, until Ciel’s island resort bungalow is blown to smithereens and her client’s about-to-be-fiancĂ© is snatched by modern-day Vikings. For some reason, Ciel begins to suspect that getting the ring is going to be a tad more difficult than originally anticipated.

Going from romance to rescue requires some serious gear-shifting, as well as a little backup. Her best friend, Billy, and Mark, the CIA agent she’s been crushing on for years—both skilled adaptors—step in to help, but their priority is, annoyingly, keeping her safe. Before long, Ciel is dedicating more energy to escaping their watchful eyes than she is to saving her client’s intended.

Suddenly, facing down a horde of Vikings feels like the least of her problems.

REVIEW:

Holy crapoly, I freaking LOVED In a Fix by Linda Grimes! Is it rude of me to say I didn’t expect to love it as much as I did, because it’s the truth. I SO DID NOT expect to fall so hard for In A Fix, but I am super glad I did. SUCH an amazing book! And so, so hilarious. LOVE. <3

I’m going to admit right here and right now that I have a girl crush on Ciel. She is my FAVORITE and I wish I was her. But only because of Billy (GASP, I know. I was so for Mark until the ending.) (More on that later.) And because she has the ability to adapt auras, which is like the coolest power EVER. Seriously.

And the guys? Holy hotness, batman. I love them so, so much. I’m not sure how Linda Grimes managed to write two smoking hot guys, but she did and UGH ALL THE FEELINGS. Yes, there is a love triangle in this one, but I don’t think love triangles are as prominent in adult fiction than young adult, you know? The only other one I can think of is the Stephanie Plum series by JanetEvanovich.

In A Fix combines humor and urban fantasy beautifully; I ate it up. I was rolling in laughter at times, and of course there are some Serious Times, too, where I was all Serious Reader. There is never a dull moment, either, which is just awesome. I hate being bored while reading. There’s action, there’s romance, and there’s jokes. What can get better?

Nothing. Unless Billy came strolling out of the pages and into my life. Then it’d be heaven.

You guys want this book. SO BADLY. It is such a great read, and I can’t wait for book two. ALL THE BOOKS.

  1. Nice review. But, my question for all adult urban fantasy novels starring a female MC is, is it REAL urban fantasy, or just paranormal romance in disguise? Almost always it is the latter, to which I have to say no thanks. I have to read the UFs with male MCs just so I can be sure they're not going to devolve into PNR at some point. -_-

    1. well, since there's nothing paranormal about In A Fix, I'm going to say it's urban fantasy.

  2. Oh, I have this for review and I was kind of convinced I wouldn't like it, just like you, but as the reviews are coming in, all of them good, my expectations have changed considerably.
I agree that the aura thing is super interesting. The love triangle worries me a bit, but if it's not too angsty, I'll deal.
    Great review.

    1. I didn't think I wasn't going to like it, but I didn't think I was going to LOVE IT as much as I did.

Well, for starters, it's not like a YA love triangle so I think you'll be fine. I hope you love it, Maja!

  3. This looks so good, even though it's not something I usually read. And i don't hate love triangles in adult fiction, because... that shit happens after high school. And i'll take Morelli and Ranger please.
