Cover Interview: Pivot Point by Kasie West

Every Friday, I bring you a new cover interview and hope to introduce you to books you want to read, or the very least make you more excited for the book. This week's pick is...

Pivot Point by Kasie West
February 12, 2012 by HarperTeen

Reminiscent of the movie Sliding Doors, Pivot Point is about a girl who has the power to Search alternate futures. When faced with a life changing decision, she lives out six weeks of two different lives (in alternating chapters), both holding the potential for love and loss, and must ultimately choose which path she is willing to live through.

Pivot Point sounds so freaking amazing, doesn't it? I am dying to get my hands on this one! AND I LOVE THE COVER SO MUCH. *pets screen*

About Kasie West:

I love to write--too much. It's a sickness really. My debut novel, PIVOT POINT, will be published by HarperTeen in February 2013 (which makes me want to scream really loud with joy. In fact, I do, a lot). My agent is the talented, funny, and sometimes crazy, Michelle Wolfson.

And now the interview!

I love your cover. I’m sitting here staring at it, trying to think of what I like the most about it and all I can think is, “I love it I love it I love it.” Amazing cover! What is one cover that you absolutely freaking love (besides your own)?

It is so hard to pick. I love so many covers for so many different reasons. But I'm a huge fan of "movement" in covers so some of my very favorite are: Hourglass and Timepiece by Myra McEntire.

I love those cover so, so much! Absolutely gorgeous. If you had to pick, what is your favorite part about your cover? I don’t think I can pick. Honestly, I love it all.

I love so much about it, but one of my favorite things is the placing of the title. I think the vertical title adds the perfect split to the cover that not only fits the book so well but makes the cover stand out.

Did you have any say in your cover?

I did, actually. They asked me if I had any ideas and I gave them a few. One of my thoughts was a girl looking at herself. But let me say, they did it so much cooler than I had pictured it.

When you saw your cover, what did you do?

I stared for a long time. I saw my cover in front of my agent and editor so I felt like I had to like it. And they were both so excited for me to look at it. So I stared for a long time because I had to kind of separate my feelings from theirs and make sure I wasn't reacting to it because of their excitement. But after I stared forever, I said, "I love it so much." And then I pretty much stared at it for the next 24 hours straight. My husband wanted to go to dinner (we were in New York) and I said, "Can my cover come too?"

Describe your cover in three words.

Gorgeous, Misty, Split

Describe Pivot Point in three words.

Choices, Future, Love

Ooh, good words! I love teasing because it’s always fun to watch people squirm—can you say anything teasing about Pivot Point?

There are so many teasers I could give but how about: Which future will you choose? And will it be the same one Addie ends up in?

Thanks so much for this interview Ashelynn, those were fun questions. I hope you and your readers love my cover as much as I do! But more, I hope you love what's behind the cover the best.

Thank YOU, Kasie! xoxo! What do you think of the cover, guys?

Also! if there is an author/cover you'd LOVE to see interviewed, I have set up this handy dandy form. Please help me out! If you love this series, and want to see more interviews, fill out the form. It's all anonymous, so if you are an author and want extra publicity, fill out the form! I still retain the right of final decision on who I email, though. :)

  1. This is one of my favorite new covers. I kind of have to have it for my shelf. And I hope Kasie brought the cover to dinner. I'd hate to think of it all alone in her hotel room.

  2. Thanks for the cover love and interview, Ashelynn!! :) That was fun. And I love your blog header. So cute.

(And Steph, I *didn't* bring it to dinner. Do you believe my husband insisted I leave it home? He's such a jealous thing. :) Ha. )

  4. I LOVE this cover, and I agree with the author that the placing of the title was brilliant. That's so cool she was able to share an idea or two...most authors don't get the chance, so how awesome.
