Discovered This Week + Wrap Up (9)

Discovered This Week is a feature here at Gypsy Book Reviews! It's where I post all things book related that I've discovered this week, which is pretty baller, not gonna lie. HOWEVER. this isn't all book-related stuff I've found this week because let's face it, if I put it all into one post we'd be here for a while.

You can read STORYBOUND by Marissa Burt for FREE on HarperCollins' website for the entire month of April. Which is pretty freaking AMAZING. That's how I'm going to be spending my April.

This book trailer is SO AMAZING! I want to read Immortal City by Scott Speer right now. I think it's out now, so I must put it on the to-buy list or try to-win list ;D

This trailer for Wendy Higgins' SWEET EVIL makes me want to read the book, but the one thing that bothers me is HER VOICE OMG. She sounds like somebody's southern grandma. I don't even.

So, I haven't done a weekly wrap up lately mostly because last week I was in New York and didn't post much. I did, however, review EMBRACE by Jessica Shirvington and said it has it all: kickass characters, a strong romantic subplot, and breathtaking mythology. I gave it four stars because I didn't quite understand her reactions and why Phoenix was in the book. But I did enjoy it, and I'm also hosting a giveaway! So if you want to read EMBRACE, and can provide a Canada/United States address, GO ENTER. All the cool kids are.

For the memes this week, I did an IMM which has a butt-ton of books (well, a LOT for me.) So if you like reading posts about what books I received in my mailbox, you should check that out. And this week I'm waiting on TIMEPIECE by Myra McEntire. I loved the first book and am dying to get to the companion/sequel!

For reviews, I gave three stars to Tomorrow Land by Mari Mancusi. The middle of this book, when they are on the road with the children, was probably my favorite, but the last chapter made my stabby and I hated some of the illogical things--I'm not sure if the author just didn't mention them or she didn't THINK about them, but apparently I do. I blame all the medics in my family.

I also reviewed the best book ever this week! oh, wait, I mean THE BOOK OF BLOOD AND SHADOW. omg you GUYS. Robin Wasserman BRINGS IT in this book. I loved Skinned, but her new book is so, SO good. I am going to shove this book into everybody's hands until they've all read it.

I reviewed The Bloggess' hilarious first novel, her memoir LET'S PRETEND THIS NEVER HAPPENED. It's also one of the best books EVER. like srsly. I was rolling on the ground laughing so hard while reading. And laughter isn't the ONLY thing you'll be doing while reading--I bet you ten bucks you'll also cry. And if you don't, you are a cold, heartless man.

The brilliantly talented Hannah Moskowitz has a new book coming out next week called GONE GONE GONE... which I didn't really like. I don't know why, since I've loved her other books, and I will continue reading her books... just this one wasn't for me. I did however, rate it three stars, so I didn't really hate it or love it. It just... was a "meh" type of book.

So, what did you do this week?

  1. Oh, thanks for the link to the Harper story, Ashlynne--I hadn't seen that! It's fun that you do these wrap ups. I really want to read SWEET EVIL, too.

  2. Wow, Immortal City looks great! I had not heard about it until now, definitely adding it to my list, thanks! Going to go check out your IMM now, love seeing what people got :)
