When her boyfriend, Danny, is killed in a car accident, Wren can’t imagine living without him. Wild with grief, she uses the untamed powers she’s inherited to bring him back. But the Danny who returns is just a shell of the boy she once loved.

Wren has spent four months keeping Danny hidden, while her life slowly unravels around her. Then Gabriel DeMarnes transfers to her school and somehow, inexplicably, he can sense her secret. Wren finds herself drawn to Gabriel, who is so much more alive than the ghost of the boy she loved. But Wren can’t turn her back on Danny or the choice she made for him—and she realizes she must find a way to make things right, even if it means breaking her own heart.

Amy Garvey’s transcendent teen debut is perfect for fans of Shiver and Beautiful Creatures. Wren’s unforgettable voice and story will stay with readers long after the last page is turned.

Review:

So… funny story. I had an eGalley of Cold Kiss and it expired before I managed to read all of it. But I read the first few chapters and fell in love with Wren and the voice. It was hauntingly beautiful. It stayed with me for a really long time and I had been dying to buy a copy of the book so I could figure out what the hell happens.

Oh, I just wanted to hug Wren. She seemed so sad and like she needed a friend who knew about her secrets. But mostly I wanted to know more about her magic. I LOVED Amy Garvey’s take on witches. I mean, nobody straight out says they’re witches, and they don’t talk about magic, but it was interesting.

I really liked Cold Kiss. It was so brilliant and so easy to fall head over heels with. I wanted so badly to be friends with Wren—I could easily relate with her.  After I finished reading it, I hugged the book. I don’t think I can put into words how much I LOVED this story. It was a fascinating read for me. I hadn’t read a lot of reviews before, so I didn’t really know what was going to happen.

Such a great book. I highly suggest this one to lovers of all things of the written word. While there is a zombie in this book, it isn’t the usual paranormal romances out there. It’s more fantasy than paranormal. Definitely check this one out.

  1. I have never read such a simple, straight-forward review of this book. Thank you so much, Ash! It sounds like such an amazing book. I'm going to have to get this! I really want to see what this one's all about with the resurrected boyfriend and how he's so different afterward. Sounds fascinating.

    1. thanks, Cathy. I worked hard on this review. I was--and still am--in a review slump--so I'm quite proud of this review. Wish more people would have read/commented on it, but whatever.

Can't wait to see what you think of it!

  2. I'm so glad you liked it!! I've been super curious, so I'm real glad I have it waiting myself now, 'cause it's getting bumped up the to-read pile. ;) But gosh, it sucks the galley expired before you got to finish! That happened with me on two. :( I still need to get them!

    1. OH YAY!! I AM SO GLAD! :) Hope you love it! <3

Also, right! It sucks, especially since HarperCollins archives the galleys a month before publication. Sigh!

  3. I keep seeing this cover around and I've never read what this is about. This sounds really good. I'm going to have to put this in my TBR. Great review Ashelynn. Is this a stand-alone?

    1. Hey Rachel!

It isn't. Glass Heart comes out this fall, and it the sequel (also, when reading my reviews, if you don't skim the details near the cover, I say whether it's part of a series or if it's a standalone.)

    2. I do notice that you write "stand-alone" on some. I didn't see it on this one, that's why I asked. Next time I don't see your tag "stand-alone" I'll assume it's more than one book. :)
